Product:

Office XP Service Pack 3 (SP3)

Version: full-file update

Please tell us what this program does and doesn't do for you!

Pros: To other posters,

PLEASE, when writing reviews, please tell us what works, what doesn't, and if possible, at what stages - i.e. - during installation, won't run after (or will), or if only part doesn't work, please tell us which part of the OP SYS doesn't work! If it seems to be harmful, please post what is harmful about it? Since there are post here, and many households only have one computer, I can surmise that there is some workability to it, but then again, not really... for all I know, those posting could be posting from another computer and their's could be DOA on install.

Reading reviews is critical for many of us, but if we don't know exactly what's going on, then it doesn't help much, if at all.

Cons: Not sure, yet, downloading as I'm typing this, but looking for answers... This is for non-beta SP3. Will put 5 star until I see what this thing does...

Product:

Spyware Doctor

Version: 5.5

Spyware/Malware included & asks for $30 AFTER you've installed trial version!

Pros: NOTHING

Cons: I downloaded the free trial version. It read that I had infections I definitely did not AND read Spybot S&D and AdAware as "infections" I remotely scanned my computer for the so-called infections this program said I had and manually looked for what it said I had as well and it was dead wrong! If my computer is infected now, then it came from this software!

After it tells you that your computer is infected, when you try to remove the so-called infections (that on this system were non-existent), it says you need a key, thus need to pay the $29.95 or so, to remove the non-existent infections.

As for if this product really does work for real infections is beyond me. The labels were enough for an experienced person to look up and tell if that infection really did exist, but the average computer user would likely not have a clue as to how to look those things up the way they are listed, which is *****-poor at best...

There are free programs (which I strongly encourage donations for) such as AdAware, Spybot Search and Destroy & AVG Antivirus that work VERY well and are not hoaky like this one is! (AdAware does have a paid version that does a bit more and is worth the money.) Spybot S&D only asks for donations and is a very good program that sometimes picks up stuff that AdAware doesn't and vice versa (depending on the new junk malware and adware writers make up & who gets the problem fixed first!) AVG is a free (OR paid) anti-virus/anti-malware/anti-spyware program set that works awesome! just make sure you get it from the manufacturer or a reputable website, as with anything else.

This program opened ports that can cause infection on my computer, so I can see why another poster got an infected laptop!

I would STRONGLY recommend AVOIDING this program, especially if you are a new computer user or have limited knowledge! Use the other reputable products I listed above!

IF I could give this software 0 stars or negative ones, I would!

Avoid this product!
