Pros: Simple, free, and creates a nice look on a variety of disk label types.
Cons: Sometimes a little too simple. Crop feature is nonexistent, dragging the picture larger does not automatically keep it's correct ratio, distorting the picture, and the undo button only goes back one process.

Pros: Software works well, fast and has a simple to use interface. The fact that it is a totally free and legal program for this task makes it the only choice if you don't want to pay.
Cons: Dealio tool bar ruined my search engine and security settings on Firefox 2.0.11. It took a half hour to remedy the problem. Also, it uses all available CPU processing power, so long converting times can lead to a PC shutdown to protect the processor from overheating, especially in laptops. No mpeg or mpeg2 support for creative or iRiver products

Pros: Software has a manual scan, but also runs on the background ALL the time, scanning everything on your PC. It's the only free program that actually handles the virus after it has been detected. An excellent product. Skins are free online at the Avast site, and are far superior to the standard "alien" look to the window.
Cons: A resource hog, as others have mentioned, but with XP 1.25 GB Ram and a 1.7 Ghz processor, my Acer laptop handles it very well. Initial scan is slow, but you only really have to do it once.

Pros: Limewire familiarity, but without the annoying ad in the beginning to upgrade.
Runs faster, loading and closing, then it's counterpart.
Cons: Could use a color change makeover... makes me think of Windows 98, and also looks unnecessarily chunky. People abuse the chat mode with profanities and rather stupid remarks.

Pros: Everything that you would ever want in Microsoft Word, but with editing features packed into the right click list of tasks to complete, making editing (double spacing, font, etc.) more accessible than word. OpenOffice Quickstarter makes opening any file a snap, literally instant. Familiar user interface for Windows users. A more professional product than WordPerfect or other Word knockoffs. ODT format is recognized by Google docs.
Cons: Quickstarter requires 60 mb of RAM.
ODT format is not supported by other word processing programs, but can save in .doc format.
