FL Studio

Version: 8

Sharp learning curve, but well worth it

Pros: This is the most all-around complete music creation production program for such a relatively low price. Other music programs that are equal to FL easily cost much more.

The absolute control you're given over the entire music making process can't be touched. You can create virtually any kind of music you please, and then tweak it in ways you didn't think were necessary until you tried it.

The sheer vastness of things you can do to your music are a perfectionist's dream come true. I can't even begin to go into detail here. It's that expansive.

Cons: On the other hand, I did say it has a sharp learning curve. If you are not prepared to spend a lot of time learning how a real music studio works, then don't bother. The only help you'll get is from online tutorials. There is no 'easy' mode, no cut-and-paste instant-music here, jack. This is real music making, and if total immersion isn't your thing, this program isn't for you. Otherwise, don't be scared off by the trial-and-error process. It is well worth going through.

Version: 2.0.108

Excellent

Pros: Almost perfect for what I use it for, which is crafting extended DJ mixes.

Cons: It's rare, but sometimes it just can not get a song to beat match. Also, the lack of equalizers is a minus. These two gripes should NOT discourage you from trying this program.

Same as it ever was-good

Pros: Still just as good and easy to use.

Cons: Still just as picky about what it wants to grab.

Orbit

Version: 2.4.2

I like

Pros: The very first time I used it was to download a 15 mb file. At first I thought it didn't work at because nothing was happening onscreen after I ordered the download, but how was I wrong! The file downloaded right where I directed it in the blink of an eye with no intrusive notice, no interruption of website activity, no lag, nothing! BAM! Downloaded it in a snap! I couldn't believe it so I tried another file, this time 20 mb...Same story! BAM! Downloaded right where I told it to on my disk in the blink of an eye!

Cons: Sometimes Orbit doesn't automatically pick up on exactly what you want to download, and it's hit-or-miss getting it to do so manually. It also tends to want to download unnecessary extra files, which you must manually un-queue before saving what you want.
