Registry Distiller

Average

Pros: Free

Cons: You can find similar applications which do their job better than Registry Distiller, for example, Advanced WindowsCare Personal V2.

Avira AntiVir PersonalEdition Classic

Version: 7.00.04.15

Unbeatable virus shield

Pros: First of all, I want to say that Avira makes one of the best commercial antiviruses (Premium Edition). Personal Edition doesn't have an e-mail scanner and protection from adware, spyware and keyloggers (these functions are available only in Premium Edition). But the protection from viruses, trojans and worms is perfect!!! Like paid version this freeware has a very fast-scanning engine and large base of signatures. I strongly recommend this application to all users because its detection percentage leaves other freeware antiviruses eating dust.

Cons: Because Avira has no spyware protection you need to install any antispyware application like Spyware Blaster or Arovax Shield. It is not a serious disadvantage but I have to say about it.

Product:

ZoneAlarm Firewall (Windows 2000/XP)

Version: 7.1

My choice

Pros: My type of connection to the Internet is local area network so I need to have a firewall installed on my PC. I tried Comodo and PC Tools before ZoneAlarm. Comodo Firewall seemed to be rather difficult to use and it slowed down my computer. PC Tools was easier to use but finally I unistalled it after it had crashed. ZoneAlarm is the best choice for novice users. Although I am not a novice I like such products.

Cons: In my opinion, the free version of ZoneAlarm contain too many ads offering you to purchase commercial versions. I can understand such decision in order to promote the product but ZoneLabs made it in a badway. In spite of it, I can recommend this products to all users who need to have a reliable and fast-working firewall.

Baku

Version: 2.6.2734

Not the best, not the worst

Pros: Baku is a light-weight system cleaner which is able to clean your hard drive and registry.

Cons: Although it is free, it hasn't enough options to suit me.
