Buggy & Difficult
Pros: It has a free version and a huge user-based community support center.
Plug-ins otherwise missing from the program are written by the users. (Also a con...)
No 'spyware' I could see. It's free... And, uhm..., it's free.
Cons: 1. Does not play all .wma's (Windows Media Audio) files, even when Windows Media Player and Windows Shell will. (I rip my cd's to drive to save wear & tear on them.)
2. With a full gig of ram, files should play smoothly. With Win Amp, they were choppy, broken, or even prematurely ended... This was the only player that had this problem.
3. Not supported by developers- when searching their web site for help topics, you are told to post to a forum for specific questions not covered. There are no help files to speak of (except a hotkey list) within Win Amp itself.
Oh, and if you right-click on various parts of Win Amp enough, you can 'teach yourself' how to use it's less-than friendly "classic mode" interface.
4. They have dealings with AOL.
5. Plug-in content created by users often have bad descriptions, inaccuracy, or do not work correctly.
6. Totally f'ed my codecs up. When I uninstalled Win Amp, made it worse. Had to reload Windows and codecs from scratch.
