Frostbow Home Inventory

Version: 4.5.4

Wow! Does a lot for only $20 bucks!

Pros: Very easy to get up and going. Has all my required data fields included. I tested this program, A2Z Home Inventory ($20) and Inventory Organizer Deluxe ($65). I wanted a program that would keep pictures in its own database and Frostbow is the only one that does so. With the others, the program only links to a picture on your hard drive. If you erase it, then obviously you have no picture in the database either. This program does a lot for only $20 - I see that if you have a previous version the upgrade only costs $5! These folks are either very fair or they're still living in the nineties!

Cons: Can't really think of any, except that I wish it would sort by just clicking on the column headings like in some other Windows-based apps. Maybe in a future version?

A2Z Home Inventory

Version: 2.1

Looks good - could work better

Pros: Nice layout and "Windows" feel. You can see lots of info on each screen. Also, this is the only one of 3 similar programs that I tried that offered to sort all items by simply clicking on the column headings. (The others can also sort, but require additional mouse clicks, filters, etc.)

Cons: I needed a program that could display pictures (item and scan of receipt). Wile this program allows you to have at least 2 pics per item, viewing the 2nd picture requires a bit of work. Also, the program does not keep a copy of your item - your pictures must remain on the computer at all times; if you delete them off the hard drive they will no longer show up in the program. Also, I could not get the program to display a picture unless that picture was physically in the programs Gallery directory. That required making either a copy or moving all my pics to their directory. Neither of these problems occured with another program called Frostbow Home Inventory which I have now purchased after trying at least 3 different such programs.
