A Great Music Manager!

Pros: I have just upgraded to the "Gold" version with all future updates. I only do that with software that has shown me it is WORTH the money they want for it. MediaMonkey has done that! The sound quality is great, the interface intuitive and easy to understand and the features numerous. I used MMonkey for quite a while before deciding to upgrade to Gold because I wanted to use as many features as possible before paying for the rest of them. I found ID tagging really simple (and that's important to me) as well as the playlist generator is very nice.

I would recommend MediaMonkey to anyone who needs a very stable, great sounding music manager!

Horrible Issues

Cons: iTunes 7.3 completely re-arranged my music folder. Instead of opening my mp3 folder and seeing all of the songs alphabetically listed, iTunes created hundreds of little folders labelled with the artist names. Inside THOSE folders were MORE folders labelled with the album name, and then inside the album folders were the actual song files! If I had wanted my music listed that way, I would have set it up in that manner! I don't like software deciding FOR me!

Also, the actual song file names were all changed as well! I used to have them named like this:

"Van Halen - Jump"

Now, that same file is simply named:

"Jump"

So far, I can find no way to re-insert the artist names in the file name, except to go in and manually re-type them all over again by hi-lighting the file, right clicking, selecting "Rename" and then typing in the artist name. This will take me a while since I have several thousand music files that need to be re-named.

iTunes is GONE from my computer now, and it will NEVER return.

Problems From The Beginning

Pros: The user interface is great looking and easy to understand. One can load a playlist into each deck beforehand and not have to choose each song as one is playing. This is a huge time saver and very helpful for the beginner. The sound output is nice and clear as one would expect from such a program. There is an option where one can have the keyboard shortcuts for the operation of each deck superimposed over the actual "buttons", so there is no confusion about what keys perform what function. The software downloaded quickly and then installed without a problem.

Cons: After thirty minutes of use, the Crossfader malfunctioned to a point where mixing was impossible, rendering the software useless. I could not fade in or out on either deck. Uninstalling and then re-installing did not solve the problem, so it's possible that the issue was with my computer and not the program itself, but I explored every possibility to no avail. In the end, I just uninstalled the program in disgust. The "free" version is really the "ultimate" demo with 40 starts and then reverts to the free version. What features get disabled after the demo is not revealed. I would have loved to use the program and give it five stars, but an issue with the crossfader after only thirty minutes is bad. I am going to watch for the next version and try it again once it is available.
