XM Satellite Radio for Media Center

Good content that CAN be accessed from non-Media Center PCs

Pros: I'd like to offer two important comments about receiving XM radio on your PC:

1) It's FREE if you already have XM service in your car - just go to the xmradio website to create an account.

2) You CAN get XM service on any PC (not just Media Center PC's) by going to the xmradio website and clicking the "Listen Now" button.

The XM Radio sound quality and content are good and most channels are commercial free.

Cons: The Media Center interface is limited. You cannot use the record or pause buttons and you cannot share the XM content with other Media Center PCs on the same network.

I prefer to just use a browser to get the content directly from the xmradio website. The browser interface is significantly better than the Media Center interface in terms of both functionality and appearance. In other words, you don't even need this download - just go directly to the xmradio website and click the "Listen Now" button.

I was dissapointed to discover that certian channels (many of the sports, news, and talk channels) are not available online. However, there are a number of online only channels.

Mozilla Thunderbird

Version: 2.0

A good alternative to Outlook

Pros: With 4 desktop and 3 laptop PC's in our house, it's hard to justify the $800 it would take to upgrade our 2003 version of Outlook. Not only was the switch from Outlook to Thunderbird painless to my wallet, it was transparent to my family. Although I'm unable to compare it to Outlook 2007, it's definately a step up from Outlook 2003.

Cons: Thunderbird's 'help' file is a bit sparse. The documentation hasn't caught up to version 2.0
