Yeap - Calypso again for all

Pros: I've been using Calypso since 2001, and since then no other program - all Outlook, Thunderbird, The Bat, and many others - never came CLOSE to the functionality this one has. The ability to automatically turn off HTML while still seeing the message in pure text, including text links showing all scam/spam/phishing that comes to our inboxes everyday, plus the tremendously easy to configure (while powerful) junk mail feature should make this a widely know application.

Why it isn't? I guess because MCS Dallas (the original developer) wasn't big and never got attention - luckily - from the "big guys".

Cons: Yes, some pointed out a few options might be hard to configure, and this is certainly not the program to indicate to Outlook Express lovers.

RSS Bandit

Version: 1.6.0.1

Good - but not much

Pros: I'm looking for a new reader to replace Feedreader 3.12, which uses a lot of memory (90-130 MB on a 1GB ThinkPad T41). The interface is good, and the included browser works good too.

Cons: Memory consumption is basically the same as Feedreader, peaking at 176MB sometimes. News folders' count of unread items is sometimes confusing. all in all, couldn't find a reason to switch from my current reader.

ZoneAlarm Firewall (Windows 2000/XP)

Version: 7.1

Very good - but very CPU consuming

Pros: It's an excellent product which does what it's supposed to - and much better than Windows XP's own firewall.

Cons: On a Pentium M 1.6GHz with 1 GB RAM (ThinkPad T41) it keeps using an average of 80-90% of CPU usage for its core processes. System overall usage doesn't get too different, but it's disturbing to know a laptop will keep using its CPU non-stop to run a firewall even when you're not using the Internet.
