FileMenu Tools

Very handy, but watch out

Pros: Provides handy access to a lot of features, and a way to streamline context menus.

Cons: If you make a couple of errant keystrokes, you can lock up your computer in a way that even Task Manager can't strop.

Fleming Castle Single Player

Version: 1

Junk

Pros: Since it's free, (unless you want more maps), I'll be generous, since I never really played the game, due to the reasons below.

Cons: No user options - can't reverse mouse, (how did push forward to look up ever become so prevalent in gaming? Haven't these people ever done ANYTHING in the real world, like operate equipment, fly a plane, etc, etc, etc.) Can't set gamma, can't customize controls, etc. Without these, this game is worthless to me.

Plato Video Joiner

Version: 4.62

Money-grubbers

Cons: It works well, but when you try purchase it, the $30 price gets jacked up another $7 bucks for "download insurance", and there's no way to purchase this program without this "service". This is just blantant con-artistry. They can stuff it, I refuse to be taken this way.

SolSuite Solitaire 2006

Version: 6.11

Every solitaire game you'll every want, and then some

Pros: The sheer number of games & variations speaks for itself. The layout is attractive, with plenty of options (with the free optional packs), and avoids all the cutesy juvenile graphics that make you feel like a nine-year old. And it has statistics... enough statistics to keep the most anal-retentive accountant in a state of bliss in perpetuity! This collection has features too numerous to mention, and is well worth the paltry price. Best I've seen!

Cons: Minor points: The hints feature shows you every possible legal play, no matter how ridiculous. This is time consuming and frustrating when you are trying to learn a new game, or when you just want to speed up a game. At least put the best moves first.

Also, and this is true of many other manufactures' games, it would be nice to have a "resign" button on the toolbar that ends the game and brings up the stats, and a pop-up notice that there are no more moves remaining. True, both of these are available with a few mouse clicks, but it would just be "nice", you know?
