Excellent example of a civilisation/strategy game
Pros: An excellent game, despite its vintage, with a good level of complexity, modelling impacts of different developments on a society and its inhabitants. (In that respect I strongly disagree with one of the other reviewers, who found it too complex.) Details were good, even down to the city inhabitants giving different comments, depending on the mood of the city. From somebody who generally finds strategy games a bit *****-hum after a few goes, this one is addictive.
Cons: The street-based "walker" algorithm is a bit clunky, although understandable as a programming building-block. Neglect the system and it usually declines, whereas a bit of autonomous positive activity in the algorithms would have been good (and make returning to the PC after being away more interesting, rather than having the invariable decline-and-fall of Thebes awaiting).
