FastStone Image Viewer

Version: 3.4

Not sure if I'm happy with the improvements.

Pros: Does a great job of displaying the photos, and allowing me to tag and tweak them.

Cons: Sometimes it's hard to access the toolbars that are hidden around the perimeter. They're there, and maybe I'm just clumsy, but it often takes multiple passes with the mouse to get to them. Also not sure if the new version is an improvement. Now that some of the features are bunched together, and there's no more side-by-side comparison as you go, it seems much harder to work with. Having to push a button to see the original, after a number of things have been done, doesn't allow me to see which of the changes were good and which weren't. I miss the side-by-side!

Moffsoft FreeCalc

Version: 1.2.0.6

Works fine w/Vista, though doesn't say it's compatible

Pros: When I switched to Vista I missed my Moffsoft Calculator. I hate the MS one that comes bundled in. Took a chance and downloaded it, and it works great! I like the skins, the availability of the tape, and the general ease of seeing the functions clearly.

Cons: I wish it had more skins.

Colorful Tabs

Version: 2

Makes it easy to distinguish between different tabs.

Pros: Each tab jumps out, making it quick to find the one you're looking for. If you have many tabs open at once, as I do (sometimes more than 25), this is so helpful.

Trend Micro PC-cillin Internet Security

Version: 2007

Works great, but Customer Service is the WORST!

Pros: The product basically does what it's supposed to.

Cons: Since downloading 2007 my computer is beyond sluggish. Often the program absolutely refuses to close after updating. It refuses to recognize any new programs and those annoying popups show up whenever I download something new, even if it's from Microsoft. But worst of all is what's been happening since my subscription expired on June 1st. They refuse to take my $49.95. I have tried using my main credit card at least 5 times, and a virtual credit card number a couple of times. After 2 days of trying, I sent an email. They took two days to respond and said that my multiple efforts probably locked it out. So I waited, then tried again, this time with a completely different credit card. Still nothing, but this time I got a different error message number. So I sent another email. That was six days ago, and there has been no response. Finally I searched for, and found, a toll-free number, listed under "Sales." However, when I called the first time, the guy who answered (from India, naturally), said that the number I called was actually tech support. I could order on the phone, but I would HAVE TO PAY FOR THE CALL! And there was nothing he could do. I was enraged by this, but called the "Sales" number again. This time I got a woman, still Indian, and she verified that it would be necessary for me to pay for that call. She did extend my subscription for two weeks to give me time to get the renewal in place.

This whole experience has been trying, and this level of customer service is simply inexcusable. They want me to pay them $50 a year, and when they leave my computer unprotected for what is almost 10 days because they can't respond to a ***** email literally begging them to respond quickly, and then have the unmitigated gall to expect me to pay to call them to spend more money on their product, that is when I vote with my wallet. I'll be getting some other company's security program. Shame on you, Trend Micro.
