196MB Download in 7 seconds

Pros: I decided to download the 196MB Microsoft Expressions BETA software. My computer said it would take 12 hours. After 2 hours of download speeds averaging about 10kbs, I remembered I have HiBand. I opened Hiband and clicked the optimize button. HiBand made me restart the computer (annoying I thought) and start the download all over again. Well, this time, I was able to download the 196MB file in just 7 minutes! I installed HiBand a few weeks ago and thought it was just another bandwidth monitoring tool. I'm really glad I discovered the optimize feature.

Cons: Maybe I'm just so blown away by the speed optimization that I can't think of any cons.

What every OS should have built in

Pros: This tool so perfectly meets an obvious need that no Operating System should be without it. MS should have thought of it.

Cons: The menu could provide a clue about which direction you might want your slash to lean, left or right. Just offering me "/" or "\" forces me to think too much.

Pros: I like what I read about hti software. Sounds promising.

Cons: When I attempt to install, I am told some installation files are corrupt.

Actual Search & Replace

A great time-saver

Pros: I found and downloaded Actual Search & Replace when I needed to make global changes in a web site that my web development application couldn't handle. I was pleased to find that it works with multiple lines of text (html code). This product saved me about five hours of valuable time. So, when I had more changes to make involving 150 pages of code, I gladly paid the license fee. Would other similar products work as well and save me as much? Probably. But this is the one I found, downloaded and tried.

Cons: The interface is fairly clear, but if you aren't a search and replace guru, it takes a little time to decide what it all means and how best to use the settings.
