Pros: Resident, very thorough and updates it's very comprehensive database automatically every day. It monitors every action on my computer without fuss or interference. I have it set on high yet it scarcely makes a difference to the speed of my programs. It's interface and the little blue ball icon in the task bar that turns when it checks things are cute. I rate it as the best anti virus yet, free or not.

Pros: I use AVG, Bitdefender, SpywareBlaster and Ad-aware; all excellent programs that have saved my life in the past. But it was SuperAntiSpyware that has just saved me having to re-format my computer when the others failed to find the malware in it. It's free so don't grumble just because it doesn't give you real time protection and you have to take a couple of minutes to update it yourself before you do a scan.

Pros: I'm impressed with Safari's speed. I wish you could set it to automatically delete cookies and history when it closes (like you can with Opera) but it has pop up blocking and remembers your log in details for sites you visit. The skin is a bit spartan but I can't find any bugs. It's a jolly good browser and I'm going to keep using it.

Pros: It actually gets rid of stuff (unlike Add/Remove Programs) including registry entries which usually get left in your computer by other uninstallers.

Cons: I have twice tried to use this program. Whatever you try to access on your computer, a Zone Alarm box appears asking you whether to allow it. On the internet, this becomes an absolute nightmare and it ends up freezing your computer. It's success is down to blocking absolutely everything unless you tell it not to, so unless you know exactly what to allow or block, you are in for trouble. I can't see how this program can be easy for beginners as some people say. I suppose if you have the patience to be annoyed by it for a few weeks until it is trained then it might be ok. But I haven't the patience.
