Advanced Text to Speech

Version: 3.6

This is a good Text-to-Speech program and will probably live up to your needs

Pros: I used this program to read long texts (books) to me while I drew stuff, and it worked great! You get used to the not-quite-human voices, they're not boring. There is a pronunciation correcting feature, where you can tell the program how to pronounce certain words.

Cons: When the program tells you the time, it interrupts the current playback.

I tried changing the welcoming message it says when you start it up, but that setting never got saved.

Also, for some reason, when starting up, the program would load old texts that were submitted to it earlier. It might even display an older text while reading the newer text to you (the one you asked it to read just now) which is a bit strange.

But those are just minor drawbacks.

Text to Speech MP3 with Natural Voices

Version: 1.71

Needs a lot of improvement, didn't work for my needs.

Pros: This program will read text that you paste in its text field, or which you simply put on the clipboard. It's easily accessible in the system tray, and you can add its icon to Internet Explorer and Word for quick use. You can choose from several voices, and also change the volume, rate (speed), and pitch. It can convert small text files into .wav and .mp3 files.

Cons: The biggest annoyance is that the trial version will only translate short pieces of text at a time. If you highlight two Word pages, it will only read the first two paragraphs or so. If you order it to convert that 2-page-long document into a sound file, the sound file will also just have the beginning and no more. This makes this program rather useless for me, cause I'm looking for something that will read me large amounts of text while I'm doing something else in my room, and if I have to get up and feed it every paragraph separately when it's done reading the previous one, it's no use.

The icon in Microsoft Word doesn't work. It says the macro can't be found or is disabled by macro security settings, even if I put the macro security settings to the lowest.
