HTML Image Splitter

Version: 2.4

Actually does what it claims unlike other image slicers

Pros: Arbitrary cuts allowed, secure image mode, batch processing, and most suitable file type auto-selection - not much better than this! It also allows a zoom feature so larger pictures can be made smaller to fit the window. Finally, it has a ruler to measure pixel width/height!

Cons: While most trials give a time limit and thus have use, this product is not very good if not registered - final pieces are marked with an "unregistered" tag!

PicCut

Version: 2

It has its uses but not very useful for web design

Pros: If a user needs to evenly section off a part of an image for various uses, this program will work well.

Cons: For web design (image slicing thereof), however, this program doesn't cut an image into many pieces with one fell swoop. It could still work for web design, but it would take a lot of extra steps and remembering the coordinates of each piece.

Phatboy ImageSlicer

Version: 1.0

Easy to use, when it gets the pieces right...

Pros: Simple to use and free, but...

Cons: The size of the pieces it shows in the preview neither correlates to the dimensions entered by the user nor to the actual piece size. If a picture is not divided evenly by dimensions, the final pieces either end up getting cut incorrectly or with white space filling in the empty regions (as opposed to make that piece smaller). Also, it is not good for those who do not know how to incorporate HTML to repiece the image together (as other reviews here ahve shown).

Image Cut

Version: 1.4

Excellent cutting tool, but options are limited

Pros: As the description states, the cuts are arbitrarily chosen, allowing for multiple sizes of the pieces throughout - a real headache for anyone trying to save the picture without permission!

The program is also good in that it does do all the legwork once the user decides where cuts are to be made - including the best file type for the individual pieces.

Cons: This program has two major flaws. First, if the user decides to make all the pieces the same file type in a particular project, it seems to no longer choose different file types for later projects - each piece becomes the same file type regardless.

Its second major flaw is that, in the list of file pieces, options cannot be appplied to multiple or all pieces. Each piece must be selected and have its options changed.

For example, I wanted all the image pieces to be background - with 80-some pieces, I readily gave up after selecting one piece and clicking "background" and then selecting another piece several times.

eMenutree

Version: 4.6.1

offers menu-creating shortcuts to pros and great resources to novices

Pros: In general, this application offers many great shortcuts to get around having to type out so much redundant code for style sheets, HTML, and more - all to make an excellent tree (branching) menu.

Cons: While it is a good tool for novices, some beginners may find it difficult to navigate at first because the interface is at first confusing; however, the confusion fades as one uses it more and more.
