I'd rather go to Cyndi's List

Pros: Well, it works - and for the programmer it's probably a useful way to keep all their favourite links in one place.

Cons: What the programmer finds useful is not necessarily what you will find useful, especially if you come from another part of the world.

While the buttons give site names, they only give a short description of the actual content if you hover over them which is a real pain. I didn't want to waste my time visiting heaps of sites of no use me whatsoever while missing out on a site that possibly is of real value to you because it had a funny obscure name!

With internet resources changing constantly, and no update mechanism, the program will have a very limited shelf life.

A more comprehensive list of sites is at the Cyndi's List website (for example, there are plenty of others) - it's also free, it's kept updated, and it has many more links in more detailed cateogies. It fills the same purpose as this program, only does it better.

Genbox Family History

Version: 3.6.2

Excellent program for serious users

Pros: Takes an 'event' based view which allows for including data on witnesses to each event. This means much less data entry if you want to include all the information your sources provide.

Speaking of which, it has excellent sourcing capabilities - it's possible to include different sources for date and place of an event, for example. It also has highly customisable 'sentences' to create more flexible and readable narratives than most programs allow.

I have tried virtually every genealogy program out there, and haven't seen one with better charting capability.

This is a full featured program and as such may require a little time and effort to learn especially for those new to computers or not familiar with an 'event' based approach - but if you're serious about your genealogy it's well worth it.

Cons: Doesn't have quite the analysis power I would like compared to one of the other top end products, but is getting there with each upgrade.

Cute diagram - but limited capabilities

Pros: Cute way to have a quick look at other people's GEDCOMs.

Cons: The genogram view concept is all well and good if you don't have too many people in your family tree, but get a few hundred (which really isn't that many!) and it's not so practical anymore.

Doesn't take in all data from standard GEDCOMS.

Limited ability to enter all the information you might want to, and add sources.
