Abebooks HomeBase

Version: 2.3.19

It might work?

Pros: It looks like it will work. The description leads you to believe it will use ISBN numbers to go on the Internet. You can type or scan in ISBN numbers from the books barcode, but will it go online and fill in the information? It looks like it will but....

Cons: ...You'll never know if it works that way until you get a "Book seller" membership with Abebooks. How hard can that be? It's not hard , it's easy....right up till the last page in the membership application, where you HAVE TO give up your band routing number and account number and so on. If your not willing to provide the bank info...happy typing.

Quick n Easy FTP Server

Version: 2.4.1

Very nice!

Pros: I wanted a way to exchange large files for recording music. Lay down basic tracks in a sequencing program like Cool Edit (now Adobe Audition), and somehow get it to the other musicians so they can add their tracks and give it back(these files get BIG fast).

Quick and Easy FTP server is the solution. It doesn't even install in Windows it just runs on top.

You create individual user accounts with usernames and passwords, and assign folders on your hard drive to them. The computer with the server has total control. You can allow or disallow uploads and name changes plus other things. Anyway it works beautifully and there is a lot of support at the publishers web site: pablosoftwaresolutions. I needed a little help setting my router to portforward port 21.

The only œfly in the ointment is; if you don't have a static ip address, and you probably don't, you need to keep everyone informed of your current ip address. Mine changes if my DSL modem resets for any reason. Nothing the software can do about that. Your people need to be able to find you on the Internet and they use your ip address to do it.

In case your interested we use Core FTP (Free) for ftp client. Search for it on Cnet, that's where I found it.

Core FTP LE

Version: 1.3c build 1437

Works well.

Pros: I put an FTP server on my home computer so I could transfer large files and difficult files like .exe , things email doesn't like to deliver. Myself and several friends are using Core FTP (Free version) and its working beautifully. I had to talk one through it on the phone, not much grief there, first time he ever saw an FTP client. Largest transfer so far is 289Mb; not bad...try to email something like that! In case you're interested I'm using the free: Quick 'n Easy FTP Server for server software. Search for it on Cnet, that's where I found it.

Registry Booster

Version: 1.1

Easy and it Works!

Pros: I have the full version so i didn't have to deal with the trial limitations. My XP Home has not had a reinstall in about three years and you know what that means...its going to get a _little_ messy... The registry has been _cleaned_ by Norton SystemWorks 2003 once a week...soon to be uninstalled... I ran Registry Booster, made the registry back up and went with all the programs usual settings. It found 385 things to fix. I let it fix them all. You do that with the wrong software and it will kill your system. I took my chances, I have a backup. Registry booster did no harm and my system has been running great all weekend. I did the registry defrag too. I hope you get this software for yourself and have as good a fortune with it as I have.

Cons: No cons...but please make a system restore point and let the program do the registry backup. Especially the first time... its bound to find a ton of stuff to fix.
