FastStone Image Viewer

Version: 3.1

Best Picture Editor

Pros: Easy to install and uninstall, runs without error and problem. No annoying renaming, automatic editing or disappearing of original images like with Adobe Photoshop Album Starter Edition or with HP Photosmart Essential. Fastone Image Viewer is a beautiful image editor and I have not experienced crashes or freezes with this program under Windows XP SP2.

AVG Anti-Rootkit Free

Version: 1.1.0.42

Useful Security

Pros: Easy to install and uninstall. No error or problem like the last Beta version of AVG Anti-Rootkit. Although most Anti-Virus and Anti-Spyware block Rootkits, AVG Anti-Rootkit is designed for detecting already on the system rootkit(s). The scan time is not slow, but also not fast.

ZoneAlarm

Version: 6.5.714

Excellent Firewall

Pros: Easy to install and uninstall. No internet connection problems after uninstall (Google search: "zonealarm uninstall problems" for complete uninstall). ZoneAlarm protect you against all attacks, reports these attacks and is Designed For Microsoft XP. No interfering with other software. Better than Sygate Personal Firewall because it blocks more attacks and all ports are stealthed with both firewalls. I rather use ZoneAlarm than Windows XP Firewall, because ZoneAlarm controls also outgoing traffic. I am very satisfied with ZoneAlarm. You can change access allow or access block of programs, so there is no need to install ZoneAlarm again if you make a mistake in a alert.

NetVeda Safety.Net

Version: 3.8

Causes Shutdown Problems

Cons: Netveda Safety.Net 3.80.0001 causes Windows 98SE to crash during shutdown of Windows. This is very disappointing, because it looked like a good firewall, especial ideal for older operation systems like 98SE, where not a lot offer is.

Sygate Personal Firewall

Version: 5.6.2808

Terrific Firewall

Pros: Easy to install, configurate and if necessary easy to uninstall without rests. Doesn't lose internet connection. After I installed this version, which is total free, I did the ShieldsUP! test from the Gibson Research Corporation website and found that all tested ports are stealthy, like it must be with a good firewall. Sygate Personal Firewall remembers settings, so it will not give more pop-ups than necessary. Conclusion: Sygate Personal Firewall is the best choice, because it also controls outgoing traffic, while Windows XPSP2 Firewall leaks.
