RegistryCure

Version: 1.51

I'm fed up withis this annoying *****!

Cons: I reformat and reinstall my HD frequently. I have the registered version of RegCure--but the bright, paranoid bean-counters at RegCure assume their customers are pirates and after a SMALL number of installations, it quits, and will not allow any more. It happened to me again tonight. REMEMBER I am a legitimate purchaser with a valid registration code, but am not permitted to install my purchased software.

Some years ago I coined a phrase:

"It's companies that act like bandits, that cause honest users to act like pirates!"

With that in mind, I bet I can find a cracked version in less than 10 minutes. Am I wrong? They are treating me like I am acting unethically..I hate to disappoint them.

PDF Password Remover

Version: 2.0

It's not free!

Pros: This is another example of a developer who thinks that if he calls his software FREE that we are idiots who cannot tell the difference between FREE and TRIAL. If a product is marked TRIAL -- that's fine, I am happy to try it. But when they call it FREE believing that after they have duped me I will dish out some cash!

It may be a good program, but the develop has some credibility problems

Ashampoo Magical Security

Version: 2.01

Works flawlessly

Pros: After installing AMS you set up your password. Then, you simply click on the file you want encrypted; type in yur password; press GO and that's it. Your file shows up in explorer with its original name, but a different suffix so that you can quickly tell that it is an encrypted file.

To unencrypt the file you right click on the encrypted file; enter the password, and press GO. It really is that easy.

A nice feature is that when you are encrypting or unencrypting several files in one session it doesn't ask for the password each time. This makes your original setup (when you may be encrypting several files) very fast.

Cons: Not sure of any negatives. I carry encrypted files on my pen drive, and there is no way to unencrypt these files when using someone else's computer. A reasonabl work-a-round is to have a copy of AMS on the pen drive; install it on the host machine--do your work--and the uninstall it.

If Ashampoo could fix this I would rate it as 5-stars/

Mail Archive Pro

Version: 1.6

Lots of problems

Pros: Nothing to like about it.

Cons: First off, it crashed when I installed it. Second install seemed to work OK, but when I used it from within Outlook it froze my computer! Tried a second time with the same result.

I don't think this one is ready for prime time yet. (I use Vista and Outlook 2007, both of which are supposed to be supported.)

Start Menu Tuner

Version: 1.1

Works, but lacks support from developer

Pros: It worked as described on my XP computer.

Cons: It does not work on my new Vista machine--which I bought a month after I purchased this software. I contacted the dev and he said he would have a Vista version by fall! Ah, well..I have to wait. When fall arrived I contacted him again, and now he doesn't answer emails.

With almost 100 million Vista users the only interpretation I can put on his lack of response is that he is no longer supporting his product.

So, if you run XP and are sure you will NEVER (!!!) use Vista, then this app is fine. But let's face it, there is hardly a new computer sold today that is not Vista equipped. So, consider carefully before buying.
