Motion-Touch video player

Version: 1

Installed, but couldn't run it

Pros: The description looked good.

Cons: It installed (had to extract the .exe from the .zip-file myself). When I tried to run it, a message which seemed to be in German displayed - I think it said that the trial version had expired - and then it closed. So I couldn't even use it. Don't waste your time on this.

VCDCut Pro

Version: 4.14

Hanged when trying to play DVD

Pros: The download and install was quick.

Cons: I had one mission: I wanted to make some screenshots of a DVD movie. The program hanged every time I tried to play the DVD.

Leech FTP

Version: 1.3

Very good FTP client

Pros: I like the price: It's for free.

Installation was very quick and easy - I did it on a Windows XP Pro SP2 system.

The fact that it's old doesn't bother me, perhaps a few things could have been done better with today's user interfaces but is not essential at all and the small footprint and quick and easy installation makes it well worth it.

Setting up a bookmark / favourite to my site was easy. I didn't save the password and the program asked me for it when I wanted to connect, which is the way I like it.

I've never realised before that FTP programs can open different threads to do uploads, so it was a good surprise that this is the default behaviour (it makes 5 threads, which is configurable).

Nice graphical display of file upload progress and total kb/s.

Cons: Would have preferred not to get an error message on the first run when it tries to connect to the update site.

The remote folder didn't automatically refresh after the upload, but you can just press F5 to do it.

Switching between drives is done by right-clicking and choosing Change Drive, while today we are used to have this as part of the folder-tree. Not really a con, just something to get used to.

Virtual CD Emulator

Version: 3.0

Nice interface and seemingly feature rich program that couldn't do what I needed

I downloaded the program with the purpose of making a virtual CD drive/image of my MapSend software from Magellan (which annoyingly requires you to have the CD in the drive before running). It was easy to install Virtual CD Emulator, and the interface looks nice and friendly and is quite easy to use even without reading the manual. However, I had to try several different combinations of parameters to 'Grab' a CD, since it kept on giving me a message about the maximum number of connections being reached to my computer. Once I had the grab done, I could mount it into the virtual drive. However, when running MapSend, I kept on getting Access Violations. Thus, the program is of now use to me at this moment.

CD-ROM Emulator

Version: 3.00.036

Didn't work for MapSend

This program is exactly the same as 7tools' Virtual CD Emulator. Why it is available as two separate downloadable programs from different companies I don't know. Anyhow, MapSend DirectRoute didn't like it - gave Access Violations. Have a look at my comments for the 7tools-download.
