WinASO Registry Optimizer
Version: 2.0very useful addition to ur system optimizers
Pros: does its job. the free version corrects only 10 errors at one time, but who cares, if you have more errors than that just keep running it till you're error-free. the first time i used it, i was aghast at how much junk my registry had. a plus-point here is it doesn't throw up suspicious things at you, like tweak-now regcleaner does, winaso NEVER gives u reg entries that might be harmful to the machine if you delete them. tweaknow does that sometimes. winaso also gives you a list of all the system tools that windows has, for makin ur comp run better, with shortcuts to the same. its IE repair tool is alrite, but since i gave up IE in favor of Opera, it didnt make no difference to me. don't think no more, go for winaso now!
Cons: on my 128RAM machine anything n everythin runs slow. running it with ad-aware sometimes causes a crash. the IE repair tool changes your home page to a blank if you don't uncheck the box, so make sure you go through whats written against the checkboxes before hittin repair.

Version: 2.5excellent...and its free
Pros: leading file restoration softwares are all very expensive. this one is free and faster than the paid ones. instead of scanning everything at one go it politely asks you if you want vacant clusters to b scanned, and if you've already found your file you can say no and thus save a lot of time. no adware, malware, spyware either...the bottomline - it does its job!
Cons: recovered files are not always readable, this is true esp of data files. media files - audio and video are usually undamaged...but dll, bak, dat files were damaged and couldn't be read or restored.

VLC Media Player
Version: 0.8.2now my DEFAULT video player!
Pros: VLC is the best video player ever - it plays all kinds of files, whther u have the codec or not doesnt matter coz VLC has its own inbuilt codecs. during the installn check the video files for file association and it becomes your default video player. checking all associations makes it your default media player - for everything - something tht i wont recommend. it has streaming nd encoding capacities that an average user like me won't really b using...but they're there. small, fuss-free, low on RAM usage and free! this is a must have - go for it!
Cons: the interface takes some time to get used to - you have 3 options to open a file, but they do include a quick open option so cant really complain... it aint too great as an audio player so dnt check audio files in your file association during install. use something like quintessential which is a far better audio player.

Pros: better than 4.8 - esp the search results available. although bypassing firewalls sounded dicey to me, i have no cause to complain yet! and of course the most important thing - no spyware, no adware AT ALL...subjected it to spydoctor, adaware, winaso regopt, ace optimizer - none of these found anything. spydoc lists d whole prog as spyware, thts a bit strange - but put it in d ignore list n ur good...so long as u virus-check everythin u dwnload....limewire rules!
Cons: ads in the free version r irritating - but its necessary evil i guess...
