Avast Home Edition

Version: 4.8.1195

An excellent product.

Pros: I rarely give a 5 stars. To me that's 'perfect' and nothing is. I switch between Avast and AVG, which ever annoys me goes and so on.

Avast, I must reluctantly admit is superior. Most of all I like the boot scan. Set it up, schedule it and go to bed. When you get up all is done along with a list of recommendations (if you checked the allow logue). I can set a 'quick scan' for all downloads. It also has a fast and constant update. Remember, as in all software you must set up your preferences and find out how. Its on access scanning can be turned off with a click in the systray and restarted the same way. All ant-virus software will call something a virus and you decide it is not. You can, after re-starting Avast, enter it as an exception.

Cons: Avast will argue with you over what is a virus and what is not far more strongly than most others. It will freeze your opening a new piece of software and the only way around it is to turn Avast on access off and start again. This can be a nuisence for P2P users. But all its attributes make Avast worth while.

AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition

Version: 8.0.1

As all AVG products, free or paid, AVG antispyware Free version 8 is a supperior product.

Pros: I dumped the AVAST anti-virus for the new AVG Anti-virus Free version 8. It does what most anti-virus software does. It is an anti-virus, anti-spyware, checks and marks in & out going email (if you chose), Link scanner, resident shield and update manager. All this is free..PLUS, it has and internet search shield and optional toolbar.

Cons: The only thing you would have to pay for is the Surf Shield. But that is why it is free.

Ashampoo WinOptimizer Platinum

Version: 3.05

This product delivers what it promises. Easy to use, speedy and accurate.

Pros: I found the setup clear and easy to follow. No guessing what to do next. It did what it was designed to do but still allowing you to make choices. WinOptimizer cleaned out my junk in files & folder, then cleaned my registry, my internet and defragged my registry. The list goes on. I compared this product to System Optimizer and System Mechanic and it was on par with one and surpassed the other. I recommend it with 5 stars.

GhostSurf 2007 Platinum

Version: 4.5.2.51

I've tried GhostSurf on and of for 4 years hoping it improved; it has not.

Pros: The reason I wanted it was to ghost surf the net. The add-on tools are functional and do their job.

Cons: I already, as most of us, have the add-on tools. I thought (wrongly) that a company like Tenebril would get it right. THEY DID NOT. Slow as molases in winter. For its price, for its functions, FORGET IT.

Product:

DesktopX

Version: 3.2

A fun and even useful add-on from a world of desktop & browser add-ons.

Pros: The objects made for 'Stardock' for free are usually of high quality and have something for everyones taste. Easy to use.

Cons: The price should be ridiculed. As I said, the objects without which the software would be useless are free to 'Stardock'. There are also many similar programmes available for free. That's why I dumped the software years ago.

Also, When I hear 'no support' it annoys me. Everything has to be instant or have someone hold your hand. Quit being so lazy and figure things out.
