Pros: This program takes you back, five years or so, when antivirus programs just did their antivirus thing and stayed out of your way. Now we get all these ridiculous gimmicks intended to justify high price tags.
AVG is free and takes care of the antivirus routine without making itself obnoxious. It's got very regular updates to its virus definitions.
I'm not sure how they do this for free. I hope a lot of people are buying their other software!

Pros: I switched to this from the other major free antivirus program and my hard drive doesn't run in the background like it was. (I have plenty of RAM so I don't understand why the other program made the hard drive run.)
It's very easy to turn off (or back on) any of the features -- like email scanning which I don't use because I use webmail. Why have things running if you don't need them!?
You can shut off the whole thing very quickly. For instance if you're offline and playing games and need the system resources. It's just as easy to turn it back on.
Avast clearly didn't get the bloatware memo. It stayed small and efficient.
Cons: I'm afraid they might not make enough money this way and eventually start nagging us to upgrade. So far, they don't though.

Pros: This is a nice-looking, smooth-running program with reminders, a timer, notes, etc.
The 24.95 is for the deluxe edition.
The freeware edition simply limits the number of reminders and such.
The timer looks good, is small, and stays on top of other windows. (If you want.)
I can see how they would get enough people to buy the deluxe edition considering how well the freeware edition works.
This is a very good program even if you stick with the free version.

Pros: When it works it's fast.
Cons: The first thing I did was go to my favorite website and get an "unsupported web client" screen.
Oh well.

Pros: I've had this program for ages and I never used the registry cleaner. I couldn't understand why, with the hardware that I have, my comuter couldn't handle Chessmaster's graphics. I cleaned the registry and now I have no problems. Something was really slowing down the system. I have no idea what, but it's gone now.
Cons: I've heard that you have to be careful sometimes or you'll zap something you need. I guess I was lucky.
