Can't evaluate - restrictive nag
Pros: Initially, it seems workable, but digging thorough the help was not as easy as it could be, but the difficulty came in the form of a nag -- see the following.
Cons: The product purports to have a 14 day evaluation period. However, in the first hour, a nag screen appears that 1. turns off the server from functioning, 2. requires that your press 3 of 4 buttons, the each bring up a separate webpage to promote other of their products. This repeats at least every hour, making any true evaluation impossible and burdensome. In fairness, I contacted the company by email and expressed my concerns, as did someone else in their own forum.
Their response was "thanks for your feedback, I can understand what You were saying, but for now I can not help You because we are not going to change this at this moment, I'm sorry that I waste Your time, let me say sorry again and
hope You can find Your ideal server software soon. "
I have emailed my reply to this response and also another complaint on their own forum:
"I read your reply on your forum with much disappointment on this subject.
"At this point, it seems to be a matter of trust and greed. You don't trust me, or anyone else, to evaluate your product and you are way too greedy to want to take my money before you can prove that your product meets my needs and requirements. A company that is so greedy that they don't trust honest customers will never flourish. It is typical in this industry to give full feature evaluation for 30 days, they choke back the feature, or cut of the working all together, but no one I know of has succeed with you nagging approach in the long term.
"An ftp server has to be configured to even work, and that takes some time when you hit a product cold, and even longer when the requirements are to interface with events in an established environment. After the configuration has been initially established, the server must be allowed to run in a live environment to see how it handles the events, up loads and download and how it can deal with security and logging issues as well. This is not something you can do in a hour or so, but must run without fail for days to be sure it has just begone to function correctly. Clearly, I have wasted too much of my time on you, and you don't appreciate a potential customer who gives valuable feedback on your product.
"This suggests to me that you would not be responsive to other technical issues I might uncover along the way, and perhaps even more so once you have taken my money."
