Join VOB Files Tool

Version: 1

Does what it says it will

Pros: Quick, easy, almost flawless as far as I can tell.

Cons: It does not create the associated .ifo and .bup files that allow this to be seen by powerdvd and edited by dvdshrink. Otherwise terrific.

DVDComposer

Version: 1.0.5

Waste of space

Pros: Interface is nice and fairly intuitive. Can generate decent menus with spot vision/images embedded. Appears that the editor features for tracks are good.

Cons: Ignores the audio stream that is already embedded in a .vob file, even though it claims to scan the audio stream when loading the file. So cannot tell whether track editor performs at all well. Finally when I check the created dvd files there is no audio on any of the demuxed remuxed .vob files. A waste of time and a waste of space on my hard drive.

LanFlow Net Diagrammer

Version: 4.19

Easy to use, demo is limited in spite of statements otherwise.

Pros: Intuitive interface.

Objects obvious.

Labelling is easy to do.

Linking to different documents is easy to do.

Allowed me to quickly diagram a system (20 switches/hubs and 140 plus computers plus 3 servers plus numerous printers) that has no formal documentation in place and scant meaningful data represented in other forms. This will come into my toolkit as soon as the school fronts the money for it.

Cons: In spite of claims that the demo is a full working version with no limitations, there is a limit to the number of hyperlinks you can insert into a document and by reading between the lines of the dialogue box, also on the number of objects embedded in a single document.

Free and unfettered should be free and unfettered, not slyly limited in an area where you don't expect most folks to go

Paraben's LAN Charter

Version: 4.19 build 1790

Looks and behaves just like LanFlow

Pros: If you like LanFlow, then you'll like lan charter. They share the same interface, the same file formats, extensions, image files, the lot. They even have the same shareware prices, although if you buy LanCharter just now the full featured version has had US$20 slashed off it.

Cons: It's just like LanFlow - if you didn't like it, then you won't like this either.
