AviTricks Classic

Version: 1.64

thx :)

Pros: for a freeware product this an amazingly useful little program. i occasionally use microsoft movie maker for transition effects, but felt restricted by the export options (basically all at 25fps and wmv - cept for the dv option - still 25fps). no such restrictions here. and once you get the hang of this little gem some pretty neat effects can be achieved. no instability on my machine and im running xp pro. 5 stars for being great, and 5 more for being exactly what i was looking for. thx :)

Cons: none encountered so far

Nice bit of nostalgia...

Pros: To all the negative reviewers...the original doom is now 15 years old - that's a long time in the gaming development world. What exactly were you expecting?? This is a seminal game, a classic - try and judge it on its own terms in the context of other games from the early 90s - ***** is wrong with you people??

Target Longlife Media Player

Version: 2.0.2

NOT original software

Pros: Well...it's Media Player Classic with a different name!

Cons: It's been stolen and rebadged - why?

The KMPlayer

Version: 2.9.3.1214

Peerless...

Pros: It is just so feature-rich, it makes WMP look like a toy. Many more features than other mediaplayers such as winamp or gom for example.

Cons: Nothing major

SMPlayer

Version: 0.5.2

Very promising prog...

Pros: It's greatest feature is the "settings saved per file" feature - its saves AR, pan and scan, even volume levels (optional) for each individual file you view/listen to. It does this automatically as you select options for each file. In short, a superb time-saving (and apparently original) idea. It looks great too. Very easy to use with a few minor exceptions...

Cons: This is a very new project so unfair to judge it too harshly. Having said that there isn't too much wrong with it. The only things that irked me was the lack of 100% FLV support, tho obviously that's an mplayer problem. If only the author could extend the prog into some sort of mplayer/directshow hybrid to compensate for this.

Oh, and the rather non-standard "send to tray" option drives me nuts - tho ill admit its more logical to click the tray icon to send the app to the tray, I can't get used to the exit button being used to send the app to the tray AND turn off whatever's playing. This irritates me greatly (I'd rather keep it as an exit button than have it do that).

But I'm nitpicking. Install this thing and see for yerself. It's great!
