Smart Data Recovery

Installs Spyware?

Pros: none

Cons: 1. 1st thing it did when run for about 5 minutes was tell me about my registry and recommended their own software to fix it (did I ask you to look at the registry? is this program FOR the registry? ... NO!!).

2. Then when I told it to go away and carry on the scan it just sat there doing nothing. CPU was at full but the HD was sitting idle. Left for another few minutes before telling it to cancel.

3. On cancelling it ... it still sat there doing nothing using 93% of my cpu, that includes not canceling.

4. On uninstalling up pop a few "pet patrol " warning boxes about a few files, which I'm assuming THIS program dropped when I removed it, don't know what they were, be it cookies or what but it was enough to trigger CA's etrust PestPatrol which is enough for me to completely distrust this program.

I advise you to avoid this program along with every other program they make.

On their site they complain about McAfee site advisor:

"A big red cross (warning) definitely states the presence of a virus and/or spyware activity on the rated site. Their motto reads as follows: "Protection from Adware, Spam and Viruses". Here comes the surprise: the company "Smart PC Solutions" has nothing to do with spreading viruses yet it has received a rating of a Big Red Cross - beware of the virus threat!"

If they READ the warning it says " ... AND/OR SPYWARE ACTIVITY..." and spyware is exactly what they are active in! McAfee are 100% accurate in their warning.

A definate no no and a company to avoid.

Sonique

Version: 1.96

ABANDONED BY LYCOS YEARS AGO

Pros: THIS WAS THE BEST MEDIA PLAYER BY FAR IN IT'S DAY

Cons: LYCOS BOUGHT IT, GOT RID OF THE TOP NOTCH PROGRAMMERS, THEN ABANDONED IT YEARS AGO, WIPING THE COMMUNITY FORUM OF PLUGIN AND SKIN WRITERS, AND FAITHFUL USERS ALONG THE WAY FROM GOOD MEASURE.

NOW JUST A FOND MEMORY OF A PLAYER THAT STILL HASN'T BEEN BETTERED BY ANYONE. NOW IT'S JUST A BUGGY UNSTABLE PLAYER ON WINDOWS XP & NOT WORTH BOTHERING WITH.

THE ORIGINAL WRITERS CREATED QUINISSENTIAL MEDIA PLAYER, BUT IT WAS NEVER ANYTHING LIKE SONIQUE, AND NOW THAT TOO IS DEAD.

VersionBackup

Version: 3.2

At last a simple backup that does what I want!!!

Pros: I love it, it's simple, the file structure is great. After trialing the free version for work and with the release of 3.2 ironing out a niggle I had with the programme, I've now purchased the master version for use on our work server and it's working great!

Cons: All my archives are on external media and I got a little confused with the archive feature as ALL my data is archived from the start, but after a few days of playing with settings I got it how I want it and it works a treat!

Pros: I love it, it's simple and the file structure is great. After trialing the free version for work and version 3.2 ironing out a niggle I had with the programme, I purchased the master version for use on our work server and it's working great!

I'd tried a number of programmes before this 1 and this wipes the floor with the lot and an excellent price. Registration and payment was easy and hassle free and registration as received within a few hours. Highly recommended.

Cons: All my archives are on external media and I got a little confused with the archive feature as ALL my data is archived from the start, but after a few days of playing with settings I was able to stop it from using the archive feature and got it how I want it and it works a treat!
