Internet Explorer

Version: 7

So tempted to curse out loud...

Pros: Well, it's got tabs now... it's got antiphishing...

Cons: The interface is all messed up. The toolbar is gone, no file, no edit, no view... You can no longer move the toolbars around like you like it. I think that microsoft merely capitulated to the demands of the people rather than making a unique microsoft product.

I did curse out loud, actually, when I saw the new interface. I like to customize. I don't like the setup on this.

Mozilla Firefox

Eh...

Pros: Don't know

Cons: What's this nonsense about it forcing itself to be the default browser? That's the same kind of highjacking behavior you'd expect from microsoft.

iTunes for Windows

Version: 7.2

iTrash!

Pros: It's still iTunes, so you can still get iTunes tracks...

Cons: When you first click on the link in the iTunes store for iTunes plus, it takes you to a new page where you can download the new DRM free tracks. But when you click on an a song or album, a popup appears that says:

"Do You Want to Set Your iTunes Plus Preference?

By selecting iTunes Plus below, you will always see the iTunes Plus version of an album or music video whenvever one is available. You can change this preference by going to your iTunes Store Account page at any time."

Ok, so I tell it no... And nothing happens. It doesn't let me look at the album or track I selected. Ok, so I think "just say yes then go back and reset the preference back to show normal tracks whenever one is available", since I'd rather surf through the DRM free stuff on a page all it's own, but when you do that, the next time you go to iTunes Plus and click on an album or song, again iTunes demands you set your preference to iTunes plus! I gotta say, I'd rather not have this setting set like this because I don't ever want to get something I didn't want. What if I purchase music thinking I'm getting DRM free tracks when it's actually the old crappy-AaScSc tracks? No, it's better to have the DRM free stuff be it's own store or section to prevent confusion.

Xdrive Desktop

Version: 5.1.153

No good if you already have an external hardrive

Pros: I looked to me as though the Xdrive client worked exactly like you had a second hardrive attached to your computer. I was dragging and dropping files in explorer and the client was automatically uploading them to the online storage. It worked without a hitch.

Cons: However, I already have a second external hardrive. When I tried accessing that drive to start dragging and dropping files from there to the xdrive client, explorer locked up. I closed the xdrive client and things were back to normal. I restarted the xdrive client, and this time not only did explorer lock up, but it crashed! And something I hadn't since I had my windowsME laptop happened. This XP computer, SP2, up to date in every way, went white and it asked me if I wanted to restore my active desktop!

I uninstalled xdrive client, and everything is back to normal. I can only figure that for some reason xdrive doesn't like running with a second hardrive already installed.

FlyakiteOSX

Version: 2

never got to use it

Pros: None. It never installed properly. The installer froze somewhere near the end of the install.

Cons: As you install it, you see a long list of files that are being modified. Watching the list makes you worry. It's not worth it. Not for any reason.
