AflEfax

still waiting

Pros: I can't think of any. In fact, I wish I could choose zero stars.

Cons: I'm still waiting for the fax to come in. I don't think it does anything. Plus, after I installed it I noticed in my sent items that it sent an email to setup@afltech.com with the date and time I installed it. That's not cool.

doesn't work on XP home edition

Pros: none.

Cons: It doesn't work on XP Home edition. This is the exact same file that is on Microsoft's site. When trying to run it says "Sidewinder Game Device Software 3.x installs drivers that are incompatible with this version of Windows. For more information, contact Microsoft." Also, XP included drivers work fine - I need the software that lets you program the buttons to games that don't support the joystick. I suspect that is what this is but it is for Win 9x.

Free Hi-Q Recorder

Version: 1.9

so far so good

Pros: there is no adware and it seems to have the ability to do what they advertise. also the license agreement is easy to understand and short

Cons: The only problem I can see so far is that while they say it can record as MP3 file from 5 to 320 Kbps, you'll have to pay for the full version to get anything over 96 Kbps. That's not horrible, but it isn't even Apple itunes standards which is a measly 128kbps.

Windows Media Player

Version: 7.1

Can you say resource PIG?

6.4 was such a better product as far as using processor time. Feature wise 7 is nice, but it still leaves lots to be desired. The only nice feature is how it mates with IE to play stuff in the toolbar. Only problem is, if you close the browser you also close media player. it doesn't know how to go into the toolbar.

Uni-Tagger

Version: 1.0

more unstable than my ex-girlfriend

where do I begin. Well, add a bunch of songs and scroll to the end of the list checking some of the boxes along the way. get to the last box, check it and the program crashes (I'm using Win 2000 pro). Then, as a work around just start from the end and it doesn't crash until you try and rename from filename to id3 tag. this is BAAAAAAd software. bad!
