Ulead Cool 3D Production Studio

What a sheer waste of time... read this review before you continue!

I really hate to write a bad review, but I hope my review can ward someone off before they waste as much time with this program as I have trying to find out if it is a viable 3D animation tool. I am also a software developer, and really do not like to bash another developer's work. It's rude. But given the circumstances, as a user as well, I am compelled to give this warning. I am also an artist who has worked with PCs to create all sorts of media from graphics to sound to 3D animation for many, many years. Bottom line, I know what I'm talking about, so listen up, and listen good. To be fair, this program has SOME great features, and can help you make a SINGLE 3D object or two, or a 3D text animation quite nicely... BUT... if you want to create a complete scene, or anything else of any value ( > 4 or 5 objects) the interface gets VERY funky, difficult to use, and frankly, is pure misery to work with. They claim it is intuitive, but it is in fact counter-intuitive. Many standard features in 3D animation software, such as metaballs, bones, etc., simply do not exist, so it is feature limited as well. (Well, they CLAIM to have metaballs, but the so-called metaballs don't merge with other metaballs... so basically, being no different than basic sphere primitives! That's either a bug, or they don't know what metaballs are, which is also possible.) Bottom line, this is NOT a program for anyone seriously looking for a decent animation tool. The developers that made this should be ashamed to call it "Cool" 3D, because it's very UNcool to waste our time like this. Please, for the sake of your valuable time, don't bother with this product!

Decent learning program

This title is decent for those of you learning to play. Good helper features, good analysis features. Not a "must download", in the strictest since, but still decent enough and worth a look.

Venta Fax & Voice

Version: 5.7 build 26

Very well thought out.

Pros: Very well thought out, and comprehensive. The grabbing of distinctive ring in spite of TAPI's lack of support for it is truly ingeneuous! The ability to define scripts makes it very flexible. Easily the best phone system software I've seen in a long time.

Cons: Nothing to dislike, for me. No complaints.

Chess Rally

Version: 2.5

Works wonderfully

ChessRally is a great program, and is loved by many people. What Mr. K S R Menon is NOT saying in his very unfair review titled "Connection Problems" is that the problems he's having are the direct result of his violating the License Agreement by trying to illegally crack the software, resulting in a security breach that left him unable to connect to our servers (which was by design). I have been working on a solution, time permitting, for Mr. Menon that will allow him to connect with the key he's purchased in spite of his very serious violation, but it's something that cannot be done overnight if care is to be taken to maintain security. Mr. Menon was given the option to reformat his PC or wait for the next update, as either would have completely fixed the issue he created. He chose to wait, and that's his choice. For him to be angry that he's had to wait, after having been advised of the wait, and after the problem having be caused by a violation of the license agreement is a bit of a mystery. If this seems harsh, I apologize, it's not meant to be. I just wanted to air out the FACTS since Mr. Menon was very specific in his criticism (he even named ME for goodness sake) and the users of CNET deserve to know ALL the facts, not just one sided rants from someone angry they got caught violating the license agreement. The fact of the matter is that honest users will NOT EVER run into this issue. Only those that try to crack it using a specific type of crack will run into it. Another fact is that we ALWAYS support our customers. I think the fact that we've been trying to help Mr. Menon at ALL after his violation is a testament to the loyalty we have to our customers. Mr. Menon, I apologize for airing out all the facts and details, I hope you don't feel embarrassed or feel badly about it... however, you should not have openly posted inaccurate and incomplete information just to satisfy your vengeful frustration that was ultimately caused by your own actions. To everyone else, sorry for such a long rant. Please feel free to try the software for yourself. I'm sure you'll have a good time with it, even if you only choose to use it for the trial period. If anyone has any questions, feel free to contact me directly at support@ingenuware.com. Thanks!
