Avant Browser

Version: 11.6 build 11

A Great Browser!

Pros: I like to use this browser when a site requires IE 7 like Microsoft for example for download updates and Sirius Satellite Radio Player is optimized with this or IE 7. Although I prefer Firefox 3 beta 5 or Opera 9.27 for their speed and security, I must admit this is a handy browser to have around and it's much quicker than IE 7 with nice features.

Cons: Because it relies on the IE 7, I do not feel as secure when browsing but otherwise it's very useful.

Opera

Version: 9.5

Sweet!!!

Pros: I like to alternate between using Firefox 3.0 and Opera 9.50. I use them 50:50. I prefer Firefox for my heavy lifting browser when I need the plug ins and Roboform for online shopping and applications and require high security for download virus scans. Opera is my leisure browser when I am looking for quick performance, start ups and easy surfing and lightness. I like Opera's interface and attractive skins plus speed dial. It sleek and fast and light on resources.

Cons: Opera is not supported by Roboform and Sirius Satellite radio player. Some sites do load properly with Opera. It lacks some of the Firefox add on's and plug in's that I sometimes rely on.

ClocX

Version: 1.5b2

Handy Analog Clock

Pros: Been using this app for a couple years without problems. I find it a handy reminder of when I am watching the time without relying on Win XP clock in the tray. It comes with a fine selection of skins and it has an alarm that be set. It's a nice piece of freeware and spyware free too. Can program with the date visible and the transparency can be modified.

Opera

Version: 9.26

Love It!

Pros: This has been my all time favorite browser until Firefox 3.0 beta 4 burst onto the scene with its new sophisticated engineering and incredible, unbelievable speed. But Opera is the best non beta browser in terms of speed, features and simplicity in my book. What hooked me on these later versions like 9.26 has been their light use of system resources, speed dial and the speed time for loading and downloading. There's nothing fancy about Opera, but therein lies its mystique. It just works beautifully without bugs or glitches. I am excited by the anticipation of Opera's even more faster and sophisticated browser due for release in summer. I always feel safe with Opera during web browsing sessions even when on typically "unsafe" sites with the aid of an excellent anti virus software ( like Kaspersky).

Cons: Unfortunately, some web sites are too lame to work with Opera and Roboform does not have an add on for Opera. Too bad! And the Sirius Satellite Radio Player does not stream off Opera. Too bad, again!

Mozilla Firefox

Version: 3 beta 4

Unbelievable!

Pros: I've used Firefox off and on for the past few years, but I finally settled on Opera due to its simplicity, features and most significantly its SPEED. That was until Firefox 3.0b4 came onto the scene. Bullet like speed on an average Sony notebook running XP Pro. This speed was not fully apparent however, until I did a full system recovery due to unrelated glitches and downloaded Firefox 3b4 as a clean install with no software conflicts or other browsers installed. After a few weeks of constant use, I have not noticed any apparent bugs. I am reluctantly giving up Opera until it comes out with its newest, fastest release this summer and I can reevaluate it. For right now I am more than satisfied with the excellent performance and features packed into Firefox 3b4. I can not imagine anything running any quicker than this current beta version so I have high expectations for Firefox 3.0. This beta version is easy to use, but I must caution the would user that I did not experience Firefox's full potential until I did the clean install. I miss Roboform, but I keep Firefox 2.0.0.12 around for filling out forms. Other than that, I am more than impressed. Thank you, Mozilla!

Cons: It's still in beta so I can anticipate potential bugs although have experienced smooth sailing for past couple weeks. Some add ons do yet work on it and Roboform as of 03.21.2008 has not been updated for 3 beta 4.
