Canto Pod

Version: 2

Great idea with some flaws

Pros: Ok, Canto pod is the first piece of software I could find that can actually automatically find lyrics for the songs on your ipod and put them into the contacts section. Great idea!

Cons: Sadly, Canto pod fails to do the job like I'd like it too. The first big flaw: you can ONLY retrieve 10 lyrics at a time, so get ready for checking a good number of checkboxes beside your songs(especially if you have a big library). Secondly, quite a considerable number of lyrics come out incorrect, yet they may easily be deleted in the file browser. There are also many minor errors in the program, but none are bad enough to be worth mentioning other than the once listed above. Also, the program will not be quite as nicely integrated on Video Ipods, since lyrics may be entered directly into the tag. In the end, its a very good start, just needs some improvement.

iMesh

Version: 6.0

Good interface will not get it far

Pros: In comparision to the rest of peer to peer, the interface in v.6 is great. Album download feature is nice too.

No spyware.

Cons: The program is USELESS. The number of results on the actual p2p network is minimal, if not close to 0. The new version does not stand up to what iMesh used to be.

LimeWire

Version: 4.9

Great program, no customer support

Pros: Limewire has a simple interface, with some nice features such as tabs, and dowloads monitor right under the search window. Great idea, kinda makes you wonder why noone thought of it earlier. The greatest thing is the number of search results and sources, which strongly overpowers its competitors. No spyware or ads!

Cons: Limewire has some bugs which dont seem to get fixed from one version. For instance, on many popular files, limewire will say that they are corrupted after download, and they will not work. If something goes wrong with the software, you can write them an email, but they are not very likely to respond back, as they did not in several instances. However, even with those minor flaws, Limewire wins in the world of p2p since others dont come even close.

Trillian

Version: 3.1

Great Replacement for AIM

Pros: At first glance, trillian features a sleek, full featured interface, with plenty of options to satisfy just about everyone. It even adjusts to the windows theme you are using. Tabbed chatting is availalbe, and tabs can easily be turned into separate windows for those who do not find the feature useful. If you are using AIM, you simply need to get this!

Cons: Very few things on the negative side, but i found that it does not support the SuperBuddy Icons, which I thought were kind of a cool feature in AIM. Also, you will always be getting a somewhat annoying messages everytime you loose the connection to the internet, informing you that you are now signed back on(I think it only does that if you have a mobile phone registered with AIM). However, this program feels and works much better than AIM. Strongly recommend.

Merriam Webster's Concise Dictionary

Version: 2.07

Not what I expected for Webster

Pros: It sits nicely on your desktop, and looks kind of like a widget.

Cons: Very, very, very narrow vocabulary range. I mean, if you type in anything beyond middle school vocab, it does not find it. Type in "surreal" or "gragarious", no result? Its nice interface cannot compensate for the fact that this piece of software is completely useless. Do not bother downloading.
