AVG Anti-Virus Professional

Version: 7.1.362

Great antivirus program.

Pros: It does detect trojans. I had some trojans and it did find them. I wouldn't rely heavily on real time protection anyways. You should scan any suspicious file that enters your computer. The real time detection does take some time to find viruses, but the scan will find them. This program does catch them however. I had 6 trojans, and the scan found them. The real time detection didn't catch after some time, but never the less found them. Great program. It's very low on memory, and doesn't slow your computer much. I used AVG for a quite a long time. If AVG can't delete it for you, well you can manually delete yourself. Point is it does find them for you. It healed my computer of the trojans though, so I didn't have to do that.

Cons: Nothing much.

QuickTime

Version: 7.3.1

Program itself is good, but has intrusive qualities.

Pros: Stable, and plays Quicktime movies.

Cons: It tries to sneak in iTunes. I don't use iTunes, and I don't want iTunes. When I wanted to update Quicktime, it bundles iTunes with it. If you unchecked to not download iTunes at Apple's Quicktime download webpage, you're going to get it anyways. iTunes installs a process that runs in the background, which is a program I don't use. I don't want to drain memory for something I don't use thanks. That's why I uninstalled it. Get Quicktime Alternative if you just want to play the videos, and don't want a full Quicktime player with luggage.

Bluto XT

Version: 6

Nice concept, but falls short.

Pros: Well the browser is lighter than IE7. It uses Windows web rendering engine Trident, or IE7, whatever you call it.

Cons: The major drawback this browser has is that it choked on me, and interfered with my browsing. It's like it is refreshing at a regular interval, or something, and I get stuck temporarily for a short time. This is noticeable when using the scroll bar. Not sure how this got 5 stars, but it does have potential. The minor issues I have with the browser is the favorites menu. Why devote a whole toolbar for that? I don't know why most browsers include this as I never use it. Just a simple drop down menu from the Favorites button is good enough for me.

Shareaza

Version: 2.2.5

It's a good program when it works, but far from the best.

Pros: I like the fact it connects to eDonkey, G2, and G1 networks, which helps you find rare files as well as more sources. For the most part I like how you organize your searches by selecting bitrate size, etc to the top, then bottom, or vice-versa.

Cons: It's a good program when it works, but it has problems with firewalled connections. It's understandable with Windows SP2 firewall, because the firewall limits yours connections by default, but when it comes to free firewalls, and routers it doesn't seem to do so well. It giving me a warning that my connection is firewalled, so I went to my router, setup Shareaza to allow access. The annoying warning screen stopped popping up, but for some reason not all networks seem to want to connect. G1 won't connect, while the other two do. Then I disconnect, and reconnect, this time G2 won't connect, but the other two do. It will randomly disconnect as well. I don't understand it, and Shareaza developers seem to be vending only their latest beta versions. The file organizer found in Shareaza is terrible, and unneccessary. Just view your shared folders. Simple right? Shareaza instead gives you like a 100 folders to choose from, and you find your files in one of them.

XMPlay

Version: 3.3.0.4

The best small, and light music player I found.

Pros: This player is very light on memory, and processor usage. It rocks especially with plugins, and skins. There is a plugins that allow you to play music from within ZIP, RAR archives, and much more. I thought of this being a good feature for common use, but the makers of XMPlay thought of this too, and I was impressed. Plugins for MIDI sound, etc. The skins change the player's look dramatically making it look fresh with each skin you apply.

Cons: None.
