EclipseCrossword

Version: 1.2.57

Could not download

Cons: Repeatedly tried to download, without success.

"WebsetUp unable to download the necessary files. Please make sure you are connected to the internet and try again.(If you're using a download accelerator such as GetItRight, RealDownload, or Go!Zilla, please disable it while installing)."

Odd, as I use none of the above. Any assistance available?

Foxit PDF Reader

Version: 2.3 build 2923

Great PDF reader

Pros: I haven't run into the problems others have reported here, at least not yet.

Adobe was slow and bloated, and not entirely reliable. So I tried this - brilliant. At 2.55MB compared to 33.5MB for Adobe, this is a much lighter program. Fast, too. I appreciated the "no learning curve" aspect, as the interface is virtually identical to Adobe's.

Cons: Nothing so far.

AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition

Version: 8.0.138

What happened to AVG?

Pros: I'd used the free version for many years, without any problems whatsoever. Loved it. But this version is different.

Cons: Manual, as opposed to automatic updates. Not as user friendly as 7.5 and previous versions. It worked for several weeks, but then I started receiving error messages stating my system was not protected. The "update manager" didn't seem to work properly: it constantly requested I restart the computer - but every time I did, the message reappeared.

After uninstalling and re-installing, the problem persisted. Finally, I gave up and am now using Avast. No problems and it's doing the job well.

Avast Home Edition

Version: 4.8.1201.80611

Brilliant

Pros: When AVG 8.0 free edition came out, I immediately upgraded. But within weeks, it stopped working properly, and now required manual updates. So I switched to Avast (after a brief flirtation with the ad ridden Avira), and find it unobtrusive and easy to manage. The revolving ball with the 'a' logo was a little distracting at first, but I've become used to it; better than Avira's full screen ads at unexpected and inopportune moments).

It certainly seems to be effective, and is easy to configure. Best feature: it lets the user work uninterrupted - download it, configure it (optional), and that's it.

Cons: Haven't encountered any problems.
