Ad-Aware 2007

Version: 7.0.2.6

NO and NEVER.

Pros: WAS a good product when it was the SE Personal version, small, easy to use, fast and non-intrusive.

Cons: I AM SOOOOOOOOOOOO disappointed that Lavasoft has stopped updates on Ad-Aware SE Personal and forced everyone (just like Microsoft does) to update to the lastest bloated, crappy and slow 2007 version. This product went from like 5MB to 20MB+, very high on resources, has processes running behind your back and takes 5 times longer to scan. I am also not very pleased with the interface nor have I noticed this product catches anything but traffic cookies. I honestly have NO idea where all the space taken comes from in this product, and why it takes almost more than 20 minutes just to do a SMART scan when the SE personal only took about 2-3 minutes to get the job done.

I am through with this product, and I am trying to find a BETTER alternative on Download.com to replace this useless product.

WinRAR

Version: 3.71

Love it!

Pros: WinRAR has such an easy interface, and extracts quite an amount of file types. Very small in size, had it for years, hasn't crashed on me once, and it looks pretty nice (no bumpy ugly icons, etc.) I had it installed for a while, and even though it says it's not "free", it pretty much is. If you use it, and this window comes out asking you to enter key, you can just click "close" and continue using it, unless I am missing out on something. I always prefer this out of WinZIp.

Cons: Thankfully, this protect hasn't let me down yet. I'm glad I found no cons in this product! :)

Glary Utilities

Version: 2.4

Well done, but using it for a little, and I love it.

Pros: Glary Utilities, in my opinion is one of the best cleaning software I used. Although it's a bit big (about 16MB) it does everything else paid cleaners do. It has Disk Cleaning, Registry cleaning, shortcut fixer, uninstall manager, and a lot other useful features for protecting your privacy. Glary Utilities is very efficient and FREE. I have spent money for the past year on Ace Utilties and finally gave up when I found this useful product for free that does everything a paid software does. It's very fast, accurate, very easy on your resources, and hasn't crashed on me at all. Highly recommended.

Cons: I didn't see a registry backup .. that's a tool Ace Utilities have incase you made a mistake in your registry cleaner. Although I can't complain since this is free.

Avast Home Edition

Version: 4.8.1169

Wow fascinating!

Pros: And people recommended me to use AVG antivirus? I can't believe this program comes with so many features in such a small, easy to use interface. Not only does it scan for viruses now, but it also includes anti-rootkit protection, antispyware, and even less memory usage! I love this antivirus, it has so many easy to use features that can save you from viruses and allow you to safely browse the web. It is so non-intrusive and good for anyone who wants a working FREE antivirus! Worth more than the free price!

Cons: None so far. I'd love to see a firewall, but I can't complain, this program could take a while to make, and since it is free, I'm satisfied.

Mozilla Firefox

Version: 3

Disappointed

Pros: I have to say there is no such thing as a perfect browser, I use a lot of browsers and all of them have pros and cons. I have seen no major improvements in this new Firefox. However, here are some minor improvements I've seen:

It has new menus for the AddOn Manager, now you can see your plugins and a small window inside for finding new extensions. Useful, however, you still have to restart Firefox for themes and other features to work and preview. Install theme, restart Firefox, hate the theme, uninstall, restart Firefox. That's a very long process, and Opera has a feature that enables you to preview their skins without restart and asks if you want to keep it or not. I'd expect better for Firefox but I was wrong.

I can only say, the only reason why I stuck with this browser was because of its addons and extensions which are purely powerful.

Cons: The new "smart bar" on the address bar is extremely annoying and pain in the back. If I wanted to see my bookmarks, I'd go to the bookmarks folder. Other than that, the stars on the end of the URL disturbs me more than anything. There is no option to disable this either.

The new interface is almost in my opinion is a big copy of IE7 and Opera. I prefer Firefox 2's original default theme because it wasn't too much. The icons on the new default theme are extremely bright (including the yellow folders), if you use Windows XP themes, you'll have a hard time seeing, if you use the Windows Classic theme, your menu titles will not highlight and you won't see the words (black text on dark blue highlight)

And if it gets even worse, the bookmark manager is very annoying also. I have no use for the history and tags, instead it was an additional feature for more hassle. Deleting and moving folders causes Firefox to "not respond" and you can't even rename the annoying "bookmarks toolbar" anymore, which I have always done. You cannot rename the entire bookmarks folder, yet it named itself to one of my subfolders and it would not change back.

Like I stated earlier, there weren't major changes except a few tweaks here and there on the theme, which doesn't even look all that great. The memory usage just to view google.com was about 50MB RAM, meanwhile Opera used 15MB and IE7 used 19MB. Memory performances? I don't see it. It doesn't seem much faster than Firefox 2 or IE7. For speed and performance, I still consider Opera to be a lot more dominant. Firefox 3 was just another disappointment other than the new Opera's bugs.

Don't get me wrong, but I was never a Firefox fan until I tried version 2 and I loved it. It was basically perfect for my web browsing experience but now it's just a bit screwed up. I hope this is fixed soon and I hope someone or even the developers make a theme of Firefox 2 and allow it to be used on Firefox 3, otherwise I'll just stick with Firefox 2.
