Auslogics Disk Defrag

Version: 1.4.13.296

Excellent, as usual

Pros: I didn't notice any great differences between this & previous versions, but having just defraggged both my HDs, all I can say is "Thanks Auslogic!" for continuing to distribute such great free software. It's in my top ten recommends.

Cons: nowt

AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition

Norton & McAffee can go jump!

Pros: I've never understood why people pay ý30 to install Norton & McAffee when there is such a good free product available. Are they mad? A prince among apps.

RapidShare

Not as good as the competition

Cons: Admittedly, I'm not a registered member of Rapidshare, but if the free service they supply is anything to go by, I won't be spending my hard earned readies to join. I'm aware that free users take second place to paying members & quite right to, but many of the attempts I have made to download files from Rapidshare have resulted in nothing but frustration. Many times I am told that am already downloading a file, when I'm not, or that I have filled my days allowance for downloads, even though I haven't made any. These are only 2 examples of the many reasons given for not allowing a download. And the times for waiting to re-submit a download request are very long, typically over an hour. Often to be told 'no' yet again!

I've given Rapidshare a 1 star rating, but only because there is no nil star button!

My recommendation for those wanting to upload files for sharing is to use Megaupload or Sendspace, both of which I join via free registration after being impressed with their downloading services. Those that have downloaded from my shared files have not complained of any problems with either, other than the lack of bandspace due to paying customers having it all, which is fair enough.

p.s. 'search_file', this is supposed to be a review forum for Rapidshare, not a spam forum for Loadingvault.com

Sendspace

on the other hand....

Pros: Note: Review below refers to registered, but FREE upload hosting services! All host's mentioned also supply unregistered free & paid-for services.

Kudos to Sendspace for the file size limit, which at 1.5gb is three times the limit for Megaupload & many times bigger than the Rapidshare limit (100mb or 300mb, depending on which Google hit you read). The interface is simple & easy to use & the uploads proceed without a hitch. Once uploaded the file details & links are shown on a separate page & there is also the option of receiving an e-mail containing the link . but.......

Cons: ......on the other hand.......

the time limit for retaining files hosted by Sendspace is a paltry 7 days. In common with Rapidshare & Megaupload, this only applies if the link is 'inactive' (i.e. has not had any downloads), but the limit for both the other hosts is 90 days.

Megaupload also sends me an e-mail if a file is due for deletion, Sendspace does not. I've no idea if Rapidshare does as I've only used them as a downloader.

So my recommendation for any free users - use Megaupload, unless your file is too big, in which case Sendspace is the better deal. Rapidshare is probably fine to upload too, but I know from bitter experience that it is a begger to dowload from, so your chums & colleagues may not be pleased when attempting to do so!

TAGAP: The Apocalyptic Game About Penguins

Version: 1.5

Non - starter

Cons: It would have been nice to have been able to review this game, but despite downloading it several times, on both IE & Firefox, via IE, Leechget & DownloadHelper, I was unable to open the game, as none of the installers could locate a file entitled 'XINPUT1_3.dll'.

Anyone else have this problem? Anyone else NOT have this problem?

1 star, but only because there is no 'nil star' rating (a definite oversight to the rating system, download.com)
