ZoneAlarm Firewall (Windows 2000/XP)

Version: 7.1

ZA the standard by which internet security software should measure

Pros: I happen to beta-test this particular version of ZA prior to its release. Please forgive my biases. The software is robustly implemented around well formulated algorithms. The interface is crisp, nice, and simple. Even a complete newbie can become a firewall expert in no time with this tool in hands. It is easy to install and configure. ZA is in a class of its own. Even in the beta phase, very few bugs were found.

Cons: To be franc, I have to say that ZA is only close to perfect. I found that security suite takes too long to load on startup. Also, it has to be well configured on network computers if sharing is wanted among Vista systems. It could sometimes prevent network discovery from functioning properly and therefore prevent the different systems from seeing each other.

MemoKit

Version: 3.0

Resource Killer

Great program should be designed to use as little as possible of computer resources. We can therefore conclude that memokit is a poorly written program. It used more than 12% of computer resources when active. Letting this thing running in the background actually overload it. Programs such as this and Memory Optimizer actually are not efficient at all and destroy the very purpose they were supposed to accomplish. You don't have to be an advance computer user to check my statement. Monitor your system resource performance before and after activating this program. I would recommend a small and free utility FreeRAM XPLite which optimizes memory and uses up almost no computer resources when active.

QuickField 5.4 Student

Version: 5.4.0.553

Very powerful engineering tool compared to the alternative

Pros: User friendly interface, elaborate documentation and online help including examples, step-by-step instructions and a virtual tutorial. The electrical and magnetic suites are breathtaking. It comes with many useful tools that could greatly facilitate the design and simulation process.

Cons: There are still some small bugs in the interface that need fixing. I would have ignored them and rated this software a 5-star if it were not for the fact the student or limited version comes with a very restricted solution space (only 255 mesh). Only insignificant problems could be simulated under such restrictions. This is very cheap, lame, and degrading.

Memory Optimizer

Placibo Effect Programs

Except for stealing precious system resources, those programs are completely useless. They only display running processes and a way to terminate them. If you know how to use windows, you can accomplish this without this program. These are just stupid utilities. Don't waste computer resources or money on them. You'd better spend times learning how to use windows.
