- "For music only"
The J. River Media Jukebox is a stripped-down but free version of the popular J. River Media Center. Popular in its own right, Media Jukebox uses the same interface as its big brother to deliver a feature set that's anything but little, but strictly limited to music support. Those in search of video and image compatibility will need to download the Media Center.
The program mimics the iTunes interface in a way that could benefit from more inspiration, but it doesn't stop the extras from shining through. You'll be able to burn and rip CDs, sync with just about any portable--including iPods, tag tracks, and convert files to several popular formats. It has browser support letting you buy music from Amazon and plug-ins for several services including Last.fm so you can find new music based on your taste. You also have your choice of skins you can download to give your player a new look. Playlists are also supported.
Former problems with encoding have been largely taken care of. Instead of providing access to CDDB, Media Jukebox uses a proprietary database that works fine with commercial CDs, but not quite as well with backup CD-R copies. Database crashes are largely a thing of the past, and we didn't encounter any with the latest release. Other limitations in the Media Jukebox that get freed in the paid version include plug-in support, TV recording, and support for Audible. We also had to restart the computer after installation, which was annoying if not problematic. Nevertheless, Media Jukebox is a good choice for users who are focused on their music collections and want a change from iTunes.

Version: Media Jukebox 12
"At last, the software I've been looking for!"
Pros: I?ve always had, right near the top of my software wishlist, the need for a media player that #1 is as easy to navigate as iTunes, #2 has plug-in options as Winamp, #3 has the cool sound options of Windows Media Player, #4 can actually sync my iPod correctly!!
Let?s face it, iTunes has become slow and bulky, and sux at playing videos anyway, but if you have an iPod it?s one of the few media players that does the job right. Winamp has become another way of finding the most overwhelming route to do a simple task, and WMP just doesn?t present your media library in the way you?d like it to.
Media jukebox solves all my problems (and I?ve looked at MANY media players). It presents itself in a simple way, has all the features I need, and presents its awesome flexibility and customisability in a way that actually makes sense when you bother to look into it. The sound output is awesome, it?s easy to use, I can update my iPod, and found plugins for my MSN ?now playing? and Last.fm scrobbling too!
I honestly think I?ll have no problem spending some cash on the additional features that come with Media Centre, but for now, I?m very content with what this toy has to offer.
Cons: ?Media Jukebox? sums it up. It plays audible media only such as music and sound bytes with no support for video files. A LOT of work has however obviously gone into this, and people have to pay the bills, which is why you?d have to pay for Media Centre (which is worth every penny).

Version: Media Jukebox 12
"the best looking media player by far."
Pros: J.River can sure give itunes a run for its money atleast in terms of looks and memory usage. As i said the player looks awesome!!! The Album Art view is pretty cool somewhat just like in windows media player 11. The sound options are pretty customizable, there are multifarious options to tweak the sound, j.river offers a replaygain scanner, a virtual subwoofer, a resampler, and a freaking darn good library, the program isn't a memory hog, even the setup file is small. u can tweak around with various other settings too.
Cons: The free version of J.River aka Media Juke box only offers support for playback of audio files only, for playback of video files u need to shell out some money to buy the full media center. The sound quality after a while didnt seem all that great. I'll still stick with foobar2000 for my audio playback but one sure should give j.River a try, u never know it might just be what you were looking for.

Version: Media Jukebox 12
"Sounds better than Windows Media Player & easier"
Pros: Faster, easier to use, & seems to play classical music better than Win Media Player. Doesn't seems to distort & "enhance" WMA files. The lack of distortion is not noticable with rap or heavy metal played at full volume.

Version: Media Jukebox 12
Pros: Lots of options for organizing files and albums. Good visualizers. Works well with Minilyrics. Good use of thumbnails.
Cons: Music sometimes (but rarely) stutters (when surfing the web at the same time. But it might only be my computer...)
