The application consists of four components: an Internet and local activities cleaner; a Windows Explorer plug-in that allows you to delete files and folders securely instead of using the standard, unsafe Windows Delete command; Disk Wiper, which allows you to wipe out free disk space to prevent recovery of previously deleted files or software activity; and DOS Eraser for Hard Drives, which allows you to erase your hard drive, logical drive, and partitions. Active@ Eraser complies with the highest standards of data security by providing U.S. DoD 5220.22-M, German VSITR, and Russian GOST P50739-95 data-destruction methods. All components are tightly integrated to attain maximum functionality.
Version 4.1.0.3 may feature minor improvements and bug fixes.

This easy-to-use file shredder provides most necessary security measures, although the trial version isn't ideal for working with supersensitive data. Active@ Eraser's main window mimics Windows Explorer, letting you choose which files, folders, and drives to shred by drilling down into a file tree. However, some users may just choose to take advantage of the program's support for erasing files via a simple right-click. You'll find five secure algorithms for deleting files, though the trial version unfortunately only grants you access to the least secure, one-pass method. Active@ Eraser also can schedule cleaning sessions on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis, but you can't specify that shredding occurs at a certain hour. If you like, you also can quickly wipe any free hard drive space for added security. This program makes a good choice for most home users who don't need to rid themselves of top-secret documents.
