From SmartLine: Active Ports - easy to use tool for Windows NT/2000/XP that enables you to monitor all open TCP/IP and UDP ports on the local computer. Active Ports maps ports to the owning application so you can watch which process has opened which port. It also displays a local and remote IP address for each connection and allows you to terminate the owning process. Active Ports can help you to detect trojans and other malicious programs.

  Good Overall

  Pros: Shows all TCP/IP information being transferred and by what programs. Allows user to see if spyware, etc. is running.

  Cons: As reviewer Steve Hazen says, "Norton Internet Security 2005 incorrectly identifies this program as spyware." Not the programs fault, but still a pain.

  Pros: For those of you that need the info this program gives do not hesitate on downloading. If you have no need or understand what it does, don't download. No virus or spyware that I could find.

  Pros: Easy to use. Show all ports connecting on yr pc. For example, some minutes ago I saw many connections running( despite no program being running) and I open Aports and it showed me Karspersky antivirus and Zonelarm connecting to internet. PHEW!

  Doesn't work (with nV Firewall - possibly others)

  Pros: Shows SOME of what is going on.

  Cons: But not all. A simple test of running "netstat -an" from a command prompt and Active Ports at the same time (while surfing the web), will show you that this program does NOT show you all the active connections that your PC has made (or is making, disconnecting). Even when it is set to a high refresh rate, it does not catch connections (such as web page port 80, 443) that are active for a long time.

  Running Windows XP SP2.

  :::WAIT::: Just before hitting the send button here, I thought maybe my firewall is interferring with the program. Once I turned OFF my firewall (nVidia's nforce4 hardware firewall - nV Firewall with ActiveArmor), THEN this program started showing the same connections that netstat -an shows.

  So, I've bumped my rating from 2 stars to 3 (it should work with firewalls installed).

  Nice, simple, small

  Pros: This program is very simple, doing exactly what we expect it to do: monitor network ports that are open or in use on the local computer. This latest version also has an installer, which is a nice addition.

  Contrary to the previous review, there are no virii in the files provided.
