Online avatars are gaining in popularity fast as more people seek ways to express themselves digitally. CNET News.com's Neha Tiwari and CNET Download.com's Jessica Dolcourt reviewed five sites that offer avatar-building features to test how well they can be used to recreate consumers' likenesses. While representations made from some tools, such as WeeWorld's WeeMees, appeared cartoon-like, others mimicked 3D realism.
