The People started as a project in a music lesson with Harry Carr (Drums), Neil Gibson (Vocals), Chris Down (Vocals and Guitar) & Andrew Richardson (Bass). Andrew Richardson has now been replaced with Kurt Smith.
From Brooklyn to Baltimore
The mantle of East Coast "indie mecca" tends to rotate between cities: D.C. had a turn with punk, Boston won votes on the Pixies alone. These days hipster-laden Brooklyn and upstart Baltimore seem to be battling to a high draw. The cities are forever seeing you a National and raising you a Yeasayer. This mix spotlights bands from two of the rock world's most vibrant scenes.

Black Kids
Jacksonville's Black Kids now join Manchester's Ting Tings in a remarkable effort to make the Kills and Go! Team seem old. Thankfully, we need not take sides. On cleverness alone, it's hard to vote against the Kids, whose head-snapping retro beats are set off by a buffet of puns.
Tilly and the Wall
You don't notice it at first--the way those "drumbeats" sound kind of odd. And then you figure it out. That's tap dancing. The Omaha group have made their name by subbing feet for drumsticks, and on their new full-length the stomps remain a weirdly effective way to underline taut indie-rock tracks.

My Brightest Diamond
Shara Worden doesn't need to get Feist-level famous, but she sure deserves to. Known previously for her work with Sufjan Stevens, the Brooklyn singer-songwriter has just dropped a second straight solo stunner. The elliptical, enchanted "Teeth" is one of the best indie-pop sets of '08.
Bon Iver
Justin Vernon comes by this project name--sorta-French for "good winter"--honestly, having cut his LP in the snowy isolation of rural Wisconsin. There's a reason we mythologize such outings. This is pristine lo-fi, run through with icy acoustic guitar and fragile vocals.
