From 12Ghosts: Don't allow others to see which Web sites you have visited. Removes history, cookies, temporary cached files, and the typed-address list of Internet Explorer, AOL, MSN, Netscape Navigator, and Opera. Many Windows options, as well as most-recently-used menus are wiped. It even deletes locked files (files that are in use, for example those ominous index.dat files). You may extend the washing with any user defined item. Version 8.11 has easily remove temporary files by type on all drives, more options to clear.

Although some features are missing in action, 12Ghosts Wash successfully clears a few traces left by computer activity. The program's detailed, multitabbed UI is crowded with options, most of which aren't even accessible in this free version. We were able to clear some start menu items, including histories and the recent documents list, and we emptied our recycle bin and temporary folders. Internet Explorer's address bar, temporary cache, cookies, history, and the address bar and temporary cached files for Firefox are erasable. While other browsers and pop-up blocking are shown, they aren't available during the trial. Recent file menus for WinZip, WordPad, Paint, and Media Player are cleared away, but lists for other Office areas such as Word, Excel and Access remain in plain sight. Full-feature clearing is only available in the paid version of 12Ghosts Wash. File shredding is touted, but it requires another download. While the free version only dishes out the basics, it effectively handles those tasks. Anyone looking for spot clearing rather than the whole enchilada will find 12GhostsWash sufficient.
