    Version: Folder Lock 5.9

"It does not work, and cust support evasive"

by blackft on May 4, 2008

Pros: It has a cute GUI

Cons: The app was not doing what it advertised for me I performed exhaustive uninstalls and re-installs and booted at every step. My testing indicated that nothing was actually being locked. Folder lock was making files and folders hidden, which I could overcome by setting XP to view hidden files or follow the links left behind. I let customer support know this on Feb 23. They replied on Mar 1 saying "We would suggest you to install Folder Lock on another location, like C:\ or D:\Folder Lock\". I told them in my first note that I don't have a C:, but that I boot from my F:\. They go on to say: "Download the uninstaller.exe file which you can get from ........however, you are using Windows Vista...." I told them that I'm using XP Pro. You did not read my note or see any of my effort. You just sent me a form letter. Thanks for nothing! I replied to the non-helpful note, asking for either help, or my money back. I never got a reply. I've just sent another note to them asking for my money back. Does anyone know of a good way to lock up your files?

"Does not do what it says it does"

by texas rose on May 3, 2008

Pros: I like the easy use of the program and the interface.

Cons: Once you lock something in the folder and close the program, you can still go back and do a search of your hard drive and find whatever you put in the folder. I have used all 3 options to lock the folder, yet I still can do a search and locate/open files within the locked folder. Their support people inform me they are aware of this 'flaw' and that it is Microsofts fault due to Windows updates. They are working to correct it--if I can wait until August 2008, they will release a 'new, better encryption' update that will knock my socks off and correct all the problems. I am using Windows Vista. In the meantime, I have no security on certain files. SO, I just have to be sure and not let my computer out of my sight or let any one else use it until August.

    "DO NOT DOWNLOAD"

    by hgupta2008 on May 16, 2008

Pros: THIS SOFTWARE DOES NOT UNINSTALL --- IT WILL STAY on your VISTA PC

Cons: THIS SOFTWARE DOES NOT UNINSTALL -- DO NO DOWNLOAD

IT ONLY ALLOWS 35 uses -- forces you to register

the software: DOES NOT uninstall when you follow the directions to uninstalling.

it does not uninstall from the control panels either.

    you cant delete it!

the website: NEW SOFTWARE -- has NO HELP about uninstalling it

    NOT RECOMMENDED FOR USE!

"Doesn't work for Vista, and they admit it, but won't refund money (yes, I bought it)"

    by longlost2 on May 9, 2008

Cons: Doesn't work on Vista, and after several attempts with cust support, they finally admitted it. Rather than provide the refund I asked for, they insist that I wait until a new version comes out in August. So we have ethical as well as technical problems.

"Your files are not really protected."

    by markp001 on May 6, 2008

Pros: If you are only protecting files on a PC the program works great.

Cons: When you protect the files from your PC onto a portable drive your files are not protected. To beat their program all you have to do is to take your portable drive and connect it to a Mac. Plug in the drive and you can see everything that is supposed to be protected. I asked for a refund because their program doesn't really do what they say it does. So far they haven't responded.
